Here you will encounter the extraordinary story of Mataatua Wharenui - the great carved house that travelled the globe and, a century later, came home again. Mataatua Maori Marae Experience
1 HOUR TOUR
Traditional Maori Marae experience including a sentry call, incantation to spiritually prepare yourself for the experience, welcome, greeting and introduction to the Marae, pressing of noses, Wharenui - entering the womb of the living ancestor, Hiko: Legends Carved in Light, interact with the carved ancestors, light refreshments.
2 HOUR TOUR
Add a hangi lunch or dinner to your experience. hangi is Māori cuisine at its finest, cooked to give the taste of the earth infused into an array of meat and vegetables. PRE BOOKINGS ONLY.
